Variable selection is performed by a stepwise backward selection method with a threshold of 0.1 for removal from the model. Plausible predictors (age, gender, diabetes mellitus, pretransplant treatment modality, dialysis vintage, body mass index, past history of cardiovascular disease, donor-specific antigen, ABO incompatible, rejection, nadir creatinine, calcium, phosphate, and LDL cholesterol) were included in the original model
